Hit Port o'Call Marina in Sayville intending to do photo and video of friends sailing UFO foiling sailboats. Arrived about 3pm. The Bay was a mass of whitecaps! A Wet Pants Sailing Association launch was towing in two swamped Optimists.

I left my Nikon in my ca and went over to where they were being towed in. One Opti had just been dropped by the bulkhead and was bouncing against it. I snapped a couple of shots of it with the launch and another swamped Opti beyond. The kid from that Opti was in the water. My friend in a RIB (Rigid-hull Inflatable Boat) was standing by a safe distance to seaward.

I shifted over to the beach, just below the high water mark. As I snapped a couple of shots of one of the Optis being dragged ashore, the woman who oversees the sailing lesson program came over and officiously said "you can't take photos of the lessons."

I ignored her and walked away.
That night I received an e-mail from the Wet Pants Vice Commodore about "unauthorized photos of minors." The body of the message emphasized an 11 year old girl. I felt then and still feel now that this message was an accusation of sexual inpropriety!

These photos are sailing action shots. They were taken in a public place where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. And they are not being used in a commercial (i.e., advertising) setting.
